Come take a trip through Jersey with Mike Marino. He’ll take you up and back on the Garden State Parkway with more comedic flavor than a pork roll, egg, and cheese. He’ll bring out the Italian in you, even if you aren’t Italian at all – or at least you’ll wish you were for an hour!
Every time I see Mike Marino perform live, I laugh until my sides hurt. He’s a wonderful entertainer who shares his warmth of laughter with the audience. I can’t think of one other comedian who finds himself so honestly funny that he can’t help but whole-heartedly belly laugh while telling his jokes on stage.

Many times I’ve laughed at his shows so hard until I cried, and watched him wipe away his own tears caused by the tell-it-like-it-is scenarios he shares from his own daily experiences that he personally finds funny. You have to be made of stone to not crack a smile and chuckle out loud until you gasp for breath in your seat.

| Marino is a veteran performer at The Borgata in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He is a Jersey boy and the venue perfectly showcases his natural talent with a Jersey-esque flair, bringing in the locals, but translating out-of-bounds, cross-country to audiences in Los Angeles, ricocheting up to Canada, and touring the islands on cruise ships. His hilarity goes everywhere accompanied by EZPass lanes and self-checkout scenarios somehow translating to the other 49 non-Jersey states with his so-honest-that-it’s-funny delivery of original observations. When you sit down at his show, he’ll take you on a comical journey from IKEA to Quick Chek, and suck you right into his cliché New Jersey Italian views of the world. It doesn’t matter if you’re not from Jersey. It doesn’t matter if you aren’t Italian. He pokes fun at himself and accentuates it all while putting out an invisible cigarette under his foot to punctuate his one liners, a maneuver he is known for. |
Friday’s show at The Borgata did not disappoint. Starting about an hour before showtime, a long line of fans gathered outside of the box office to secure their tickets and eagerly await entry.
Comedian Scott Friedman did a fabulously funny job of opening for Marino, while the audience let their hair down with laughs in anticipation of the star of the evening.
Marino put a bit more Jersey flair into his act, catering to his mostly native non-gas pumping audience. He not only came home for the holidays, he brought it home. “Vinny got the bat”, but ticketholders got a really funny show.
I had a minute to talk to Marino and here’s how it went:
TheLadyinRed: “Mike, what’s the best part about being back in Jersey – besides easy access to pork roll, egg, and cheese?”
Marino: “One of the best things about being back in New Jersey is experiencing the holidays - the chill in the air - the wonderful food, and my friends and family.”
TheLadyinRed: “I noticed that you have some new merchandise available - including panties for purchase! What gave you that idea?”
Marino: “I have a lot of of new merchandise, including baseball bat key chains, t-shirts for guys and girls, tank tops for the summer [They are sexy, and I have one, I interject.]….and I thought it would be funny to have matching panties for the girls that say “Get the bat!” on the butt. They're sexy and come in lots of sizes.” [He says with a smile.]
He added in his act that they come in small, medium, large, and “maybe you shouldn’t be wearing these” (because then you won’t be able to read the words)… with a little off-color, you-know-what-he-means smile. The phrase “Get the bat!” is synonymous with one of the themes Marino is known for carrying through his performance…. “Vinny” knows what it means.
TheLadyinRed: “Earlier this year you filmed the TV pilot Reconstructing Jersey (starring Marino, comedians Sunda Croonquist, Michael “Wheels” Parise, and Scott Friedman, actor Ronnie Marmo, directed by actor Cylk Cozart, and filmography by Matt Florio of ComedyFlo Entertainment). Fans are anxiously awaiting it. Will there be a way to view a teaser trailer in 2015?”
Marino: “I am hopeful that in 2015 a lot of my fans will have the ability to take a look at the trailer of Reconstructing Jersey. Right now we are still in the editing stages, but I can say it looks fantastic!”
TheLadyinRed: “Do you have any other films or TV appearances in the works right now? What are they?”
Marino: “I have a film due out in 2015. It’s called Critic-sized. I play the co-starring role of officer Steve Sabia. We are on the lookout for a murderer. It's a fantastic thriller, and the audiences are going to go crazy. The end is going to be a big surprise! No comedy here though; very serious acting roles for me.”
[That’s probably the biggest surprise to me – a serious role for Jersey’s Bad Boy of Comedy who has me in stitches most of the time!]
Concluding our candid conversation, as far as New Year’s resolutions go, Marino plans on touring the world in 2015. His parting words:
“Marino mania! Game on!”
I think he’ll be off to a great start by ringing in the New Year performing at the Riviera in Vegas.
