So what’s a Frosty Vox Box? It’s a box full of goodies, some with a winter theme (like Celestial Seasonings Candy Cane Lane tea… we’ll get to that in a minute), and in this case, it was wrapped in red! Perfect for me, TheLadyinRed, right?
I’m a make-up junkie, so I got really excited about Rimmel SCANDALEYES kohl eye liner. (I can never have too many black eyeliners.)
I wear it 99.9% of the time lining my lower eye lid (I usually wear a black liquid or gel liner on top, to bring out my charcoal-colored eyes). I’ve always heard good things about Rimmel, but somehow never got around to trying their cosmetic line until now. I must say, pretty cool! Their SCANDALEYES waterproof eye liner goes on smoothly like butter (read no tugging on the delicate skin around your eye), and it’s deeply pigmented. So you will get a true inky black line, and not some sort-of-kind-of almost black version of one. And it truly is waterproof! There was no smudging even when I became teary-eyed in cold winds or watery-eyed when I caught a cold. The waterproof-ness is actually almost too waterproof, as it took two applications of eye makeup remover to get it all off.
The Celestial Seasonings Candy Cane Lane tea is probably the best green tea I’ve ever had. Why? Well, green tea is kind of bland…actually boring. I know it’s good for you, but alone, it’s not very exciting.
Candy Cane Lane tea has slight overtones of sweet peppermint candy. You don’t need to add sugar after brewing, which really amazes me, because green tea can be bitter if you steep it too long. My only hope is that they sell it in stores year-round!
I tried Fruit Vines Bites by Red Vines candy. To me, this is like a chopped up version of a thick licorice rope. The strawberry flavor is good, but I wasn’t completely thrilled with the taste or texture. Maybe it’s because I’m not a candy person so much? |
One of the total thumbs-up goodies brings me back to my make-up junkie self – an NYC Expert Last Sugarplum lip color. I loved this. It is the prettiest shade of mauve-berry and very complimentary to my complexion. There really is no taste or smell to it, so you can layer on your favorite flavored lip gloss on top and not have a scented conflict. It’s also fairly moisturizing so it glides on easily and you don’t have to rub it on like a crayon.
Speaking of flavors, in the box was also a bottle of McCormick thyme. I love my spices. Usually I grow and dry my own, but in a pinch I will substitute a quality store-bought version in my recipes. Most recently I added a pinch to my Divine Dijon Chicken recipe to give it a slightly different flair, and I really liked how it rounded out the medley of Italian spices in the glaze. If you can’t use fresh herbs, or dry your own, McCormick is the top brand I would choose for preserved flavor. You won’t have to dump a half a bottle into a recipe to make sure that you can taste it. A little will go a long way.
However, she had her hair straightened a few weeks ago for a few days’ worth of fun, and she gave the brush a whirl. She said it felt good on her scalp, but did it really make her hair sleeker and shinier than an average hairbrush? Not really. It could be that brushes are just not curly hair friendly, even when you straighten your hair temporarily. The upside to this brush though, is the eco-friendly packaging and feels-good-to-grip wooden handle. So if you’ve got straight hair, maybe this brush is for you.
So far I’ve repurchased more of the Celestial Seasonings Candy Cane Lane tea…. I hope it’s not seasonal! It’s that good – and I’m a tea drinker! I really enjoyed the whole VoxBox experience, though. It was chock full of useable and fun beauty products and I’d be happy to review more VoxBoxes in the future. They’re fun!
