Recently, www.tidestore.com, a fashion house that makes available stylish, feminine clothing at affordable prices, sent two items from their Spring/Summer 2014 line for TheLadyinRed to test drive...or test walk, wear, run in, etc. It really was a fun experience to mix in and match items from my own wardrobe and accessorize the outfits, too.
Even if you don't have these exact same items, you can scout the aisles of other retailers for similar looks that bring about a warm weather feel; but you can also purchase these online, too.
The first versatile piece that Tidestore sent to me is the Simple Slim Maxi Empire Waist Candy Color Column/Sheath Skirt in rose. I love this addition to my closet. Total plusses are:
- {stretchability} - This comfy cut is classic in its own right, whether you have longer legs like me, and its hem rests above your knees; or if you are shorter, it streamlines your silhouette as a pencil skirt. Either way, you can walk or run - even do stairs in this skirt - and it stretches with you. You won't rip a hem or feel like your legs are glued together with every step. Also a plus - if you gain or lose a few pounds, it will mold to your shape.
- {no ironing needed!} - This point is my number one LOVE! I hate to iron. I purposely buy things that don't need to be ironed because I avoid the task at all costs. Score for this skirt! It's wrinkle free and stays that way! It's perfect for packing, too, when taking trips, since it doesn't need to be pressed.
- {bold, refreshing colors} - ...well, if you choose to be bold and refreshing! This sheath skirt comes in blue, green, rose, orange, wine red, and for those who can't fight tradition - black. I love a punch of color in my closet, so I'm really happy with the bright pink rose. I paired it with a black stretch top of my own, and my black, patent leather Christian Louboutin Pigalle pumps for the perfect work-to-dinner look that's also comfortable and not stuffy. You could also wear a solid white top for a lighter color contrast. I kept the look comfortably casual, but you could also wear a fancier top and/or blazer with this skirt to formalize the look.

This skirt comes with a very thin black faux leather belt, which you can't see because I opted to wear my shirt over it; but it's really your choice to show or not to show the strap. If you leave the belt at home, the tiny loops around the top of the skirt won't show beneath a blouse. You can't beat the value (60% off at $8.19) for this seasonal purchase.)
The second item Tidestore sent to me is this Exquisite Striped V-neckline Sleeveless Dress with White Belt.
I wanted to see if I could make the look work as if I were going to pack this outfit, and the one above for a two day getaway. That means - I wanted to minimize the pairs of shoes I packed; which is always a challenge for me. Hence, you see that I decided to wear the same black Loubis I wore in the photo before. They are a classic shoe that can easily go from day to night.
The lines on this dress are simple, and the colors classic, so I went with minimalist accessories: a longer length gold necklace and my Michael Kors gold bangle bracelet.
What I loved about this outfit:
- {shaping} - The way the cut is on this dress it comes in at the waist, making it very complementary to enhancing your shape.
- {color} - The classic black and white stripes made it super easy to accessorize.
- {it's lined} - No peek-a-boo see-through! The dress is lined so you don't have to worry about wearing a slip under it or that it's too sheer.
What I could have lived without:
- {ironing} - Ugh! This dress needs to be ironed. So if you're like me, this may not be your first choice for purchase. But if you don't mind a few minutes of pressing, then this is a very cute, summery look that you could even make work appropriate by adding a black blazer over the top.
- {it runs small} - The sizing is one size fits all on this. Well, I would not say all. There is no stretch to this fabric, and if you are on the taller side, the skirt length is mini. If you fit comfortably in a US women's size 0 or 2, then this is for you.
If you want a burst of color and love this dress, it also comes in a yellow and white stripe combination, too.
Tidestore offers a wide selection of feminine clothing at prices that won't break the bank. It's really a great option if you're looking for inexpensive trendy items that you only expect to last for a season. The pieces are easy to incorporate into the basics that you already own, which will make getting dressed a little more fun each day.
Oh! And there was a contest to go along with this fashion fun! Congratulations to Dora Szep who out of all of the blog, Twitter, and facebook entries came closest to guessing which items I would receive! She wins a set of TheLadyinRed wine charms! If you would like your own set of signature wine charms, you can get them at The Red Hot Store! Thanks for playing!
