It seems that somehow, society has taken a turn and veered off the road, hit a tree, and crashed and burned. There’s this awful label out there called “cancel culture” where it seems people want to erase history and everything and anything that their personal opinions do not agree with. Censorship of viewpoints under the guise that it’s “misinformation” has run rampant. There’s no excuse for censorship – EVER. History is fact, not fiction, and if you destroy history books, statues, or never talk about events again, it does not erase what happened. If you write about or post an opinion that someone doesn’t mirror; instead of having a healthy debate about it or acknowledging each other’s differences and moving on, people seem to pick and poke today to the point of drawing figurative blood and eradicating what someone said or wrote. It’s wrong.
The irony of the situation is that while people preach “tolerance” of others’ beliefs and opinions; these very same people are the ones who are intolerant of any expression that differs from their own.
So, I guess I will go back to writing the way that people have done for centuries before the corrupt censoring internet came into existence. Many writers just put pen to paper and wrote whatever they wanted to write; and they did not care nor have to deal with the opinions of others. They tuned out the “noise”.
I think that at least in America, we have forgotten that we have the right to be offended. Not everyone has to say the same things or do the same things or share the same opinions as one or a select few. As for the rest of the world, we can only pray that they experience the same freedom of speech as we have in the United States, and as we look in the mirror in the USA, let’s hope we don’t lose that freedom here. What people take for granted is taken away.
Will I post blogs again? Maybe. The only opinion that matters to me when I write is my own. I have never written for the approval or scrutiny of others. If the world learns how to exchange views civilly and accept that others can have different opinions again, maybe I will.
Normally I would post a cute photo or graphic with a blog, but honestly, I don’t think that there is one single such thing that can capture the words that I have just written.
Until next time….
